Miss Saigon and love (yêu - its the vietnamese word for love) in Vietnam

On Saturday I went to see MIss Saigon at the State Theatre. The songs were amazing. Especially 'The Last Night of the World' Where Chris and Kim, the two loves sing to one another about their feelings when they have to part. Its very classic! Lãng mạn is the word for romance, and niềm đam mê means passion in Vietnamese. We found it online.

I was interested in the female roles of Kim and Ellen, but I preferred Ellen's acting. She was a very good actress reflecting on the relationship between Kim and the two men, Chris and Thuy.

Chris is married to Ellen in the US three years after he returned from the Vietnam war. Ellen is not a mother yet. Her and Chris aren't ready to have children, it seems. She seems very jealous of Kim, when they travel to Bangkok and see her and Tan. In the time since the Vietnam war Kim has given birth to Tan who is Chris' son.

Kim was the star of the beauty contest. In the "sleazy bar" Dreamland. Men should respect women regardless of if they are prostitutes or not. Kim was not very experienced. Her parents were killed in the war. So we never get to find out if she looked like her mother or what her parents do. But Chris respected her and they fell in love.

Thuy is a dramatic character, "Mr. Wrong", who was influenced by Kim's father to think Kim would marry him. I kind of like him but I don't like the violence. Its the opposite of love. He wants to hold onto her and possess her and tries to kill her son.

Perhaps Ellen thought that it was just a casual thing between Chris and Kim during the war, but when Kim comes to her hotel she can see that they were really in love. And so she starts to question what really happened. She doesn't want to take Tan to America. But after his mother kills herself, she accepts him as her son. Kim thinks Tan will be better off there, and doesn't want to come if Chris doesn't love her.

Its so sad for the mother who kills herself. No mothers should have to do that. I want her to be safe too. She loves her child so much. You don't want to loose another one. Its and inter - cultural love story, and tragedy, like the king and I, another musical I've seen about romance between cultures, also set in Bangkok. I also recently say THe Big Sick, which is a love story between a young Pakistani comic, Kumail, and and American grad student Emily. This story about love and different cultures make me think about my own thoughts on love. I'm a person with a disability. And I would also like to write about my point of view about love one day.
