Lets start with Snow White and the prince Alfred. In this clip Alfred is telling Snow White she is the most beautiful of them all. He says she is exquisitely beautiful. Exquisite means beautiful, lovely, graceful, magnificent. It can can also mean intense or unbearable. But she hates that word. She says, what does being beautiful have to do with being kind, considerate, careful, gentle, generous, loving, giving or just. The prince means that she has a warm heart.
The stepmother creates a poison apple. Its red as blood and white as snow like Snow White. But the red side is full of poison. She steps through the mirror to pretend to be Snow White's mother who died when she was a baby. She says the apple is irresistible, like Snow White and original sin. Original sin is from religion, from Christians, Jewish people and Muslims.
The queen is vain. She is called the Green Eyed One. But she's polite to the king and she kisses him. But she's not good with babies. The baby Snow White starts crying when she tried to hold her. I don't know why she does that. I think it might be because the baby knows she can't trust the Queen, because the Queen only cares about being beautiful, being kind is not her priority.
Review and Discussion about Snow White: The Fairest of Them All By Emma Brodie I like the new Snow White movie, I don't know the actors who do the acting of the two beautiful women in the film. I am doing the reviews at my film school, I'm being like Margaret & David on their show At The Movies. Now back to Snow White: I like it because it's fantasy and I'm still learning about the story. The subtitle of the film is "deception never looked so sweet" and I'm thinking: what does that mean? "Emma this is really really important ..." "Yes it is - because that's how the film is." "It means someone who is really sweet looking and kind to you -" "And very powerful -" "Yes and very powerful - well they might not be kind at all and really in theirs hearts they may be very evil ..." "They are still very beautiful though. And she loves the king really well - I don't know what the story is there with the relationships ..." "That's because her brother, the wizard, makes the witch, Elspeth, do terrible things ..." I am looking at my book, Forever in Love, at the Transforming Love poem. I like the title Transforming Love, they are really powerful words. "Why does Elspeth do bad things when she doesn't look bad anymore ?" "Okay it's like this - how you're born is just a matter of luck. You can look gorgeous but your inside character that no one can see might be truly horrible -" "And you might have animals inside you -" "Really? The queen has animals inside her??" "No she was a creature, she was old but she has transformed herself ..." Well let's find out more about this film ... "It's always sad you know, about the mum, you know -" "Yes, Snow White is a story about girls who miss having a really nice mother." "I don't get that." "Ok, well she didn't even have minute of a nice mother because her mother died in childbirth." "She will find a prince, you know." "Yeah but it's not the same as having a mum to begin with because that makes her vulnerable to evil people like the Queen Elspeth." "What's vulnerable? Vulnerable is the heart, is it?" "Yes, it's like a sadness in a certain place, like a sore spot -" "Like the apple she's holding -" "Exactly - she trusts the apples that people give her. And unfortunately the Queen gave her a poisoned one." "I still like the queen though. Because I like her mirror - I like the king and the queen together but Snow White is the favourite character." "I know you like the Queen but honestly, you also have to think about what she does to Snow White. That proves that she is not a nice person at all. If she truly loved the king, she would be kindly to his beloved daughter when she grows up to be beautiful." About the flowers that Snow White's mother, Josephine likes, they are beautiful. They are red roses and they smell of white snow and the petals have softness. Emma: "What did you mean when you said they have great beauty? It's from the heart is it? Anna: "The Rose is used to express love because the Rose is soft, tender -" "Yes and passionate and love is precious -" "Yes, and the Rose is precious because it's hard to grow because it needs looking after, the relationships need growing." "Or breaking -"" "But we hope they don't break - well actually in the case of Elspeth we hope it does -" "Because of the curse. What's a curse ?" "A curse is a bad prediction - like saying you hope something bad will happen to someone." "Like love's a curse." "That's more about the thorn of the stem of the Rose -" "Of enchantment - I don't know what that is but I love the word. Can you tell me more about what that is?" "Enchantment is a really gorgeous word. It's hard to explain but a simple explanation is that it's like being in love with all the good things about someone and not seeing the realistic, not so charming stuff." "Like the next chapter of it?" "Do you mean the next chapter of love?" "Yes. And of my oracle cards. Sorry my head is full of the oracle cards and I love enchantment, witchcraft and spells and all that stuff." At the end, the prince Alfred, who was transformed into a bear, he kissed Snow White who was transformed into ice and buried under ice. It melts, they turn back into people and live happily ever after. I still like the bear kiss though. Even though it's a bit weird, isn't it? The bear's tongue would get stuck on the ice wouldn't it? "It's a fairytale, Emma, it's not realistic." "Hmm ... Realistic kissing, I must put that in my dictionary!"
