In the history of Mothers' Day, which is where it started, it was about women joining together from different countries to stop wars and to be able to be able to have power in politics. Like the Empowerment card in my Dolphins and Mermaids pack. Julia Ward Howe was poet and political woman. She gave a speech called the Mothers' Day Proclamation where she asked women from different countries to support each other.
This Mothers' Day I went to see the movie Mothers' Day with my sister Rhiannon. In the movie its a bit sad because there is a girl who doesn't see her Mum very often, even though its her biological Mum, and another girl is adopted. She's getting married, I'm not sure what the guy's name is. Its like in the movie Mumma Mia where the daughter is getting married to create stability. I don't think I have that problem. But in the movie Endless Love the Dad is a bit controlling of his daughter. Although parents sometimes have good advice, they can't control everything their children do in these films. The kids are a bit spoilt. I also wrote this poem to celebrate my Mum this Mothers' Day.
Celebrating Mothers By Emma Brodie I would love to see the movie Mothers Day, with Jennifer Anniston and Timothy Olyphant; I saw the trailer and I liked it. I was also looking at the World of Women - WOW - Film Festival which will be interesting for film class. My mum is in England seeing my grandmother right now, she is losing her memories, my grandmother is. I want to send my mum a surprise of my writing today. The Emerald is the gemstone for Australian Mother's Day which is in May. But British Mothers Day is in March, three weeks before Easter Sunday, so the gemstone for that month is The Diamond. "What is the Queen's birthstone? I know she is rich and royalty." "Well, we'll look up the Queen's Birthday holiday and her actual birthday." "Yes because I like English things - they know how to be posh and I like that, you know." The Queen's Birthday weekend is the second Monday in June, which is The Pearl gemstone. Wow, that's a lovely one. And it's so expensive getting it for the mums on Mother's Day, it's in the sixties of dollars, maybe the hundreds of dollars, that pearl costs to buy it for Mother's Day. "Yes that's true Emma but luckily some pearls are not so expensive. You can get ones that are not perfectly round and so they're less valuable. And then there are the freshwater pearls from mussels not oysters. They can be very cheap. Still lovely though." "Oh yes. I do love pearls, like on The Flintstones when the bad guy was the thief. Wilma had the pearls. She was a really rich woman to her family, with her love of jewels." "So do you want to look at your oracle cards for ideas about Mothers' Day?" Yes. I am using the Goddess Guidance cards to talk about me and my mum. I'll start with Mother Earth - my mum is not my Mother Earth but she likes growing things. I'd like to find her a Mother Earth stone, a crystal like an amethyst which the colours of the card, sort of. It's valuable and precious, which means "a thing that is of great worth."
